But When You Pray

To sit with God, my expectation weighs upon His throne.  To wait with Him, if I pull away from earthly cares, is not dull because He is SOMEONE; large, masterful, kind, imaginative, illustrious. He takes in our every word to Himself in His listening.  He hears.  And don’t we like to be heard? I must pull away from earthly cares.

His presence is SOMETHING— here and now, like it was long ago. The pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire… His presence is something real, spiritually tangible, emotionally discernable, but without some time to let these realities come in on me, I may go on about my day without the stirring of a Father sitting early with me. And it’s written that His voice is like many waters. It is wise. It is true.  Faith electrifies the blooming of His voice within, His sound rising in the inner ear, guiding from His written word. But mine (my faith) isn’t big enough yet to hold all of the reality of Him.

To sit with God is not a chore, nor a bore….not hard like years ago. I must leave time to imagine, to stir my heart up about how His fingers have touched the moon, caressed the stars, have plunged into the depths of the sea and set them aside, and they have come to rattle loose the dullness in me, making me truly alive.

To sit with Him is the wash and wave of One who loves rolling over me with His Word full of revelation. It is the emptying out to Him of every concern, every hope, every desire and my big feelings, every request, every sin. To sit with Him is real and right, and He promises reward.

But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Matthew 6:6

But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen.

I am still discovering who I am. But one thing is sure, I am made in His image and in Jesus Christ I have my life, my being, my future.
