Poppy Seed and Peppercorn

A Tale of a Seed

Poppy seed to peppercorn, come together in time and space, start your race here and now. Wee one hidden in holds of flesh, dust come alive, miracle of miracles. You are, and we flip our lids over this.

Poppy Seed, oh, Peppercorn, 3 dimensional and more. Your spark ignites in the deep, a flash of light and life exists. Garden of flesh, a tender seed set in a singular row. We know. We know.

Oh, little Poppy Seed, my tears run hard because today I know you ARE and we’ll go on together growing into a people numbering the stars. It was foretold, you in the fold of Abraham’s blessing and Abraham’s seed, my little Poppy Seed here and now. Wow. Just wow.

I’d been gathering some things; a book about a winter farm, the kind your father would have loved, a wagon full of books for you, in the closet a fold-open bed, a stroller I can run with you in, a car seat on a high shelf, and last week, a chunky ole’ rocking horse found in a treasure store in Indiana I drug up these stairs.

To my little Pepper Corn, you teeny seedling a’growin’ low, can I love you the same now as I always will? Can I say your name in the courts on high once I know your name? I forever will.

My little Sesame Seed, you rascal, you. Like with your father, I’ll sit under a glowing moon and marvel at zooming bats with you. My little kumquat, you blueberry, you, in only a week you grew and you grew, from a poppy seed to a peppercorn and you will grow oh, so much more.

Sweet Sesame Seed, Lentil Bean, soon to dwarf a lime and leek. Legs and arms, your mind and your heart are racing towards a sunlit park. You’ll grow like a cauliflower, a cabbage and corn!

Our coconut-sized baby, our cantaloupe-joy, you’ll stretch to a honeydew before you are born! But to me you’ll always be, as your dear mother first said, our sweet Poppy Seed, wee Peppercorn, baby of ours.

I am still discovering who I am. But one thing is sure, I am made in His image and in Jesus Christ I have my life, my being, my future.
